Please join us for a panel discussion on Azerbaijan’s human rights record, and the current environmental and human rights risks associated with the holding of COP29 in Baku:
***Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. (EDT)***
In November 2024, the UN Climate Change Conference (COP29) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, marking the third year in a row that the meeting has convened in a country with significant fossil fuel reserves and a dismal human rights record. As Azerbaijan prepares for COP29, the authorities have arrested and detained dozens of independent journalists and the country’s leading anticorruption expert focused on the oil and gas sector. Surveillance inside the country and abroad threatens civil society and media, and snap elections in February, which were held ahead of the scheduled elections that should have been set to take place in October 2025, have ensured President Ilham Aliyev’s presidency for another seven years.

The fourth day of the training was devoted to emotional regulation and body and mindful practices - with a little bit of art therapy, rhythm, body practices and metaphorical cards we really took the time and gave space to our emotions. One of the important instruments of the day was giving positive and constructive feedback.
After the training sessions we visited Royal summer residence in Wilanow and had a real feast at the end of the day - with incredible Polish food, Ukrainian songs and dances, for many of participants for the first time in two years.
Tomorrow is our last day, and a very important one - we are going to talk about working with parents.
The project is implemented in cooperation with Agency for the Educational Policy Development with the support of Auswärtiges Amt , as well as Department of Education of Warsaw.

The third day of our training on trauma-informed care was devoted to the theory of attachment, importance of a positive attitude towards children and understanding their needs. We talked about the concept of an important reason - one or the basic ones in trauma-informed care. Using concrete examples from the teachers' experience we tried to understand what lies behind difficult, provocative, aggressive or ignoring behaviour and how seeing the children's needs behind this behaviour may help to offer adequate help and support. The participants received many useful practical tools and are already talking about how they will use them in their work.
After the training sessions we visited Warsaw Center for Educational and Social Innovation. It was interesting to find out how professional training is organised in Warsaw, to talk about common problems of Ukrainian and Polish teachers.
And of course, there was an unforgettable visit to the Warsaw Museum.
📎 The project is implemented in cooperation with public organizations Dialogue for Understanding e.V. (Germany) and the Agency for the Development of Educational Policy (Ukraine) with the support of Auswärtiges Amt , as well as the Department of Education in Warsaw.
