(forms.gle/MbWAjjGNeSvYUUoN6)

🌍 COP29 Results: New Challenges or Possible Solutions? 🌱
💻 An online discussion on the outcomes of the UN Climate Conference as part of the series on Multicrisis
At the end of November, another session of UN climate negotiations concluded in Baku. The results are viewed with mixed opinions:
🌟 The newly approved climate finance target for Global South countries is considered too low.
🌐 Countries of the Global North emphasize the integration of climate issues with 🌈 human rights and gender considerations.
🚫 No consensus was reached on a global agreement to phase out fossil fuels, with the discussion postponed to next year.
For years now, UN climate conferences have been held in 🌏 countries with repressive political regimes or those whose 💰 economic prosperity depends on fossil fuel extraction and export. How can 🌱 global climate action be structured while supporting the efforts of local activists and communities transitioning to a low-carbon economy and lifestyle?
🌟 Additionally, how relevant is the climate issue in a 🌍 world grappling with multiple wars, growing disillusionment with traditional democracy, a shift toward 🤔 conservative or even far-right governments, and an economic downturn threatening economies worldwide, including those in the Global South?
🎤 Speakers:
Aliya Vedelikh, climate activist from Kazakhstan and editor of Ecostan News.
Angelina Davydova, environmental journalist, host of the podcasts After Tomorrow and The Eurasian Climate Brief, environmental project coordinator at Dialogue for Understanding e. V., researcher at the Institute for Global Reconstitution, and a UN climate negotiations observer since 2008.
🧑⚖️ Moderator: Dmitry Makarov, Eco-Legal Initiative
📅 Date and Time: December 15, 11:00 (CET) / 13:00 (Moscow)
📍 Format: Online
📝 Registration: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeAdFkBlIKpdHCUUheeXTfXrV81c8zwCuLBpagcV9lLr6qUfQ/viewform

🌍 **The Climate Divide: Key Takeaways from COP29 in Baku** 🌏
Last weekend, the COP29 UN Climate Summit wrapped up in Baku, highlighting growing tensions between the Global North and Global South.
While several agreements were reached—such as setting a new climate finance goal, defining rules for international climate projects, and announcing new greenhouse gas reduction targets by some countries—it has become increasingly clear that fundamental conflicts remain unresolved.
Particularly challenging are the divides between fossil fuel-dependent economies and climate-vulnerable nations, which continue to hinder global progress in addressing the climate crisis.
