Our third training on trauma-informed care for Ukrainian schools has come to an end.
The last day of the training was devoted to working with parents. In times of war all the challenges of work are aggravated by the conditions schools have to operate in, which often leads to parents' fears and dissatisfactions - they worry about the safety of their children, they are unhappy with online education, they see how the quality of learning suffers due to sleepless nights and air alerts. However, for teachers it often means that parents hold them responsible for all the problems. We tried to see how we can build a constructive dialogue with parents, help them overcome the stress, share responsibilities and find a solution together.

And of course, our circle of gratitude at the end are already a tradition)

The day finished with a tour in the Museum of Warsaw.

We wish our participants a safe journey home!

The project is implemented in cooperation with Agency for Educational Policy Development Травмапедагогіка для українських шкіл and Warsaw Department of Education with the support of Auswärtiges Amt.

A beautiful, bright emotional 4th day of the training on trauma-informed care - a tour to Wilanow royal summer residence, art-therapy, mindfulness and a festive dinner full of warm words, gratitude and hope. It's hard to believe what a big journey we've made in just four days.

The third day of the training for Ukrainian teachers was devoted to basic principles of trauma-informed care: importance of understanding that behind every difficult behavior there is an unsatisfied need, importance of secure attachment, importance of providing an opportunity of participation in making decisions, in feeling oneself efficient, in making events as predictable as possible. The participants played outdoor games, which will be useful for stress relief in their future work with children, and visited an incredible Royal Castle.

The second day of the training on trauma-informed care for Ukrainian teachers in Warsaw is devoted to stress and trauma, differentiating between the two, recognising the symptoms of PTSD in adults and children and practising protocols of psychological support in emergencies: grounding techniques to help oneself and others in case of life-threatening experiences, what to pay attention to to assess one's security and identify those most in need of assistance (spoiler - not the loud ones, but the ones who seem not to react to anything).
We finished the day with hugs - did you know your hugs also say a lot about your needs and state? You can hug to give support, to get support or as equal partners, and we gladly practised all three ❤️
The tour around National museum was a beautiful final chord of the day.

Happy to mark 10-year anniversary of cooperation with our Ukrainian partners Agency for Educational Policy Development with a third training on trauma-informed care for Ukrainian teachers (Травмапедагогіка для українських шкіл).
Today we welcomed the teachers from Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Volyn, Mykolaiv, Rivno regions.
Every region and every school face their own challenges, and it is ever so important to hear first-hand accounts of them. No tap water in Mykolaiv for 2,5 years, schools working in the underground in Kharkiv, schools near military units suffering heavy bombardments, destroyed schools, evacuated schools, schools receiving refugees, feeding soldiers... the stories we heard bring together the people from different regions and give motivation and support.
These stories show, as one of our participants pointed out, that schools have become real community centres, around which people and initiatives gather.

The project is implemented in cooperation with Agency for Educational Policy Development (Ukraine) and Warsaw Department of Education with the support of Auswärtiges Amt.

Our second training on trauma-informed care has come to an end!

We would like to note that the last day was very warm - at the end of the training our participants shared that they felt full, happy, grateful, inspired and strong. Finally, we touched upon such topics as working with parents and their requests, developing our own strategies for further work as teachers, and summed up the results of the work. Our participants are confident in their readiness to put the knowledge they have gained into practice. We hope that everyone got home safely!

Traditionally, we invite you to see the photos that were taken during the final day. We would also like to thank Anna Ponomarenko and Kateryna Muravitska for creating the video!

The project is implemented in cooperation with the NGOs Dialogue for Understanding e.V. (Germany), the Agency for Educational Policy Development (Ukraine) andWarsaw Department of Education (Poland) with the support of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2023-2025.

Last day was the mid-day of the training on trauma-informed care for Ukrainian teachers - usually an important one in terms of group dynamic. And the theme was just about that - attachment theory, support we get from reliable relationships, safe space created by understanding and acceptance. We believe our training is such a safe space for the participants and hope that once you've experienced it, you will carry this attitude along.

The second day of the training on trauma-informed care for Ukrainian schools is focusing on the notion of trauma, types of trauma and differences between stress and trauma. It is usually a relief to find out that not all those subjected to traumatizing events do in fact have traumas, and it is in our power to prevent traumatization.
A deep, sincere, emotional, and soul-piercing day - finished with a tour about the Royal Castle.

thanks to Anna Ponomarenko for the video!
